How DUTCH CLASSES ARE RUN
The whole process is quite organic and depends on the needs of the students. Generally classes are set up in blocks of 10 - 15 weeks. Each level (1, 2, 3) consists of 30 weeks of classes and takes about a year to complete. Note that these levels do not correspond to the official Dutch A1 and A2 levels. You can join a current class at any time (even during the middle of a block) as long as you have the required level of Dutch. If there are at least 4 students that wish to continue, then I can set up the next block of 10 - 15 weeks, according to the students' needs and preference.
I also do private tutoring (in Titirangi or on Zoom) if you wish to fast track your learning. This may be because you plan to go to the Netherlands in the near future or because you want to catch up to a level of a current class. However, the class schedule for 2023 is quite full so private tutoring will most probably need to be during the daytime.

What are the classes like?Classes are fun and interactive. During class time we focus on learning new grammar and on practicing our speaking, reading and listening skills. This involves pair work, fun activities as well as role plays. This is possible both in live classes as well as in Zoom classes.

What about homework? The more you practice the better you get! My guideline is to spend at least 30 minutes each week reviewing the new grammar and new vocabulary. I also give some written exercises for homework which may take roughly another 30 minutes each week. Any further practice with a Dutch native is highly encouraged!!

Do you USE a course book?We use a course book called Colloquial Dutch (by Bruce Donaldson) which sells for around NZ$70. This course book covers levels 1A-3A. For the first course (level 1A) purchasing the course book is optional (but highly recommended). Digital or printed handouts are included for all courses.
